# What do You Mean by ROI - Region of Interest?

**ROI** `Region of Interest` narrows down AI-based detections to only the principal area. For example: Suppose you want to focus on the handwash sink area to check for handwash compliance. In such a case, you do not need AI to monitor the whole room. Here, you can simply draw the area using the **ROI** tool. After this, the AI will detect handwash compliance in only the **ROI** instead of the entire screen thus, reducing computational costs.
